  1. In a major setback to the ongoing construction of the four-lane Sultanganj-Aguani Ghat bridge across the Ganga in Bihar, its super structure connecting Sultanganj in Bhagalpur with Khagaria collapsed Sunday evening. According to sources, at least 30 slabs of several pillars, including pillar nos. 9, 10 and 11, measuring around 100ft, collapsed. The estimated cost of the bridge is Rs 1,710 crore.

In an unusual move, the Centre on Sunday announced a CBI probe into the rail accident in Odisha as the railways’ preliminary investigation singled out “interference” with the ‘electronic interlocking system’ and ‘points’, which ensure safe movement of trains, as the “root cause” of the crash. T​he railway ministry ruled out any fault of the loco driver of the Coromandel Express and failure of signals.

Unruly passenger incidents onboard commercial airline flights worldwide increased by 37 % in 2022 as compared to 2021, according to a new analysis by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). While in 2021 airline reported one unruly passenger incident per 835 flights the number went up to one incident per 568 flights in 2022.
